Our clients can expend credits to add such functionality to their account, if they so choose, and can make this choice once their experience and requirements develop, i.e. once they feel comfortable. - [Do Online Negotiation Events adversely affect the relationship with my incumbent?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/do-online-negotiation-events-adversely-affect-the-relationship-with-my-incumbent/): There are many myths surrounding Online negotiation Events and this is one of them. In our experience, these Events, if run properly, will not damage any relationships. In fact, if they are run in an open and honest way (using our guides for support) they can actually strengthen relationships. You should simply communicate your intentions to the participants and continue down that new path. However, if this happens on a Pay As You Host Licence, the market dojo team can offer advice to remedy the situation. - [Can someone make a last second bid to win the Event?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/can-someone-make-a-last-second-bid-to-win-the-event/): These are professional Events where the goal is the find the market price. 'Sniping', where last minute bids are placed, will normally only infuriate participants because it will not give them time to react. The software will give you a one-stop shop for all you tender activities, keeping all the information and history in one place without the need for paper-based systems. - [How many participants can I involve?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/how-many-participants-can-i-involve/): There are no limits to how many participants you can invite. The last part of the Event Creation is the Invite Participants section. Here you will be able to enter the e-mail addresses of the participants you would like to invite. The system will then send them an e-mail to invite them to the Event. The second method is via your own methods. Whilst you follow the steps of the Event Creation, you will be given an Invite Code. - [Can I send out documents with my Event Invitation?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/can-i-send-out-documents-with-my-event-invitation/): Uploaded documents can be included in the invite, such as an NDA, a pre-qualification questionnaire, or a ‘Request For Participation Brief’ - [What format of documents can I use?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-format-of-documents-can-i-use/): You can upload any format but be aware of the size restrictions and document security. - [What size documents can I use?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-size-documents-can-i-use/): The size limit for each document is 10MB (unless it is included in your invitation, in which case it is 5MB). Please speak to market dojo customer support if you need to upload larger documents. We would suggest that you PDF the documents where possible. This will not only reduce their size but also make the documents more secure. - [How many documents can I upload?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/how-many-documents-can-i-upload/): You can upload as many documents as required. - [Can I upload documents?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/can-i-upload-documents/): Making the Online Negotiation Event a success is all about defining your specifications. This will make sure that everyone is bidding on even terms; that your Event will be more successful; that you will avoid issues like price creep after the Event; and that your participants will be willing to take part in future Events. - [How many Lots can I have?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/how-many-lots-can-i-have/): There is no limit to how many Lots you can have. We can offer an upgrade whereby you can upload the Lots automatically into the software if you have a large number of Lots. Please contact us if this would be of interest to you. - [Can I create an Event based on a unit price or must it be the total value?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/can-i-create-an-event-based-on-a-unit-price-or-must-it-be-the-total-value/): During Lot Creation, you specify a Unit of Measure (UoM) which the participants will bid upon. The total Lot value for the Event will be determined by the quantity multiplied by the UoM.For example, if you want to buy or sell 500 tonnes of metal, you could either: - [How long should an Event last?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/how-long-should-an-event-last/): Typically an Event will last about 30 minutes. Automatic Time Extension can make an Event last a couple of hours (Automatic Time Extension is a feature which means that if a bid is placed in the last X minutes, then the Event is reset to X minutes remaining). If the Event contains many Lots, has a large number of participants, or crosses several time zones then you can set the Event to last sufficiently long. - [What format of Events can I run?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-format-of-events-can-i-run/): You can run both Forward and Reverse Auctions. A Forward Auction is where a Host will be selling and the participant's bids must always go up. A Reverse Auction is where the Host is buying and the participant's prices will always go down. The Events can also be either 'Ranked' or 'Open'. In a Ranked Event, the participants will only see their bid and their position relative to other participants. In an Open Event, the participants will see the current winning bid but not who placed it. - [When should I use market dojo?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/when-should-i-use-market-dojo/): market dojo is an Online Negotiation software that can help you run an effective negotiation to find the true market price of your goods or services. It is a recipe for success. However, like any recipe you need the right ingredients. An Online Negotiation event has a higher probability of adding value when you have: - [How do I register with market dojo?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/how-do-i-register-with-market-dojo-2/): Once you are completely comfortable with how market dojo works and what we offer you, please click on the “Sign Up” icon in the top right and complete the details. This does not cost you a penny, at least not until you wish to create and host an event. Even that is free until you reach the point of inviting participants. Once you are registered, you can enjoy the benefits of all our guides and video tutorials at no cost at all. - [Will I be informed of new opportunities?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/will-i-be-informed-of-new-opportunities/): As our database grows, new Hosts will have the ability to see participants who have performed well in previous Events and may choose to include you in their Event. Thus market dojo could become a sales channel for your business, all at no cost to yourselves. - [What exactly am I bidding on?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-exactly-am-i-bidding-on/): An Online Negotiation event will be made up of one or more Lots. Each Lot represents goods or services. The Lot will be made up of a Unit of Measure (UoM) and a quantity. You will be bidding on the UoM but you will need to take account of the quantity as this will feed into your pricing decisions. - [How can I be sure the Event is genuine and legitimate?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/how-can-i-be-sure-the-event-is-genuine-and-legitimate/): Hosts need to pay to use the software. They would be unlikely to do this unless they are serious about the Online Negotiation Event. Hence you should take any invitation from market dojo as a real opportunity and give it your utmost consideration. - [Who should I contact during the Event?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/who-should-i-contact-during-the-event/): During any Online Negotiation Event, your point of contact should be the Host. market dojo can be your point of contact for technical issues relating to the software. - [Can I have direct contact with the Host?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/can-i-have-direct-contact-with-the-host/): Yes, through market dojo you are contacting the Host directly. We encourage this communication to ensure that all parties are aware of any concerns and can overcome any issues. You have two main routes for communication: - [How and when should I log into market dojo?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/how-and-when-should-i-log-into-market-dojo/): You can register and log into our system through the website. This will never cost you a penny. - [What if I want to share my Event with someone?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-if-i-want-to-share-my-event-with-someone/): Within our Admin menu for the ‘Superhost’, that is the first Host to register for a particular company, you will find the User Hierarchy feature. Here you can add other Hosts and give them rights to view or edit others Hosts’ events. You can even assign others with Admin rights to look after things like your Participant Database. There’s no cost on adding others to view your events and you can add as many users as you wish. - [What if I am ill during the Event?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-if-i-am-ill-during-the-event/): As a Host, if you are ill during the event, it will still go ahead. If you are not able to change the start date then the best solution is to have someone else within your company monitor the Event. As a participant, if you are ill during an Event, the Event will most likely go ahead unless you can convince the Host to delay proceedings. If you are not able to delay the Event then the best course of action is to let someone else with your company participate but you need to let them know their boundaries! - [Can I give my log-in details to someone else?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/can-i-give-my-log-in-details-to-someone-else/): Your log-in details are confidential and should not be shared with anyone . If someone else from your company would like to Host or participate in an Event, then they would need to register and generate their own username and password. However, since an Event, whether you're hosting or participating, is tied to a user, they would not be able to see the Event even if they log in from the same company. However, as a Host, you can give other Hosts permission to view or even edit your event(s) if you wish, by using our User Hierarchy feature (see ‘What if I want to share my Event with someone?’ below). - [Can I use market dojo if I don’t have the internet?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/can-i-use-market-dojo-if-i-dont-have-the-internet/): Unfortunately, we don't have an offline version available at this time. We may develop this in the future if there is demand but the Online Negotiation Event itself will always require the internet. - [What if the internet goes down during the Event?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-if-the-internet-goes-down-during-the-event/): We have specifically designed this software to be used online. It is the only realistic method of enabling a real-time bidding activity. With internet availability being increasingly accessible in the office, at home, in coffee shops there are normally alternative ways for getting online. As you create an Event, your settings are automatically saved as you progress and our data is backed up regularly on secure servers. However, if your internet connection goes down, the service will be affected and you will need to find an alternative connection method. If you are a Host and this happens, the Event will still be running on our servers but you will not be able to see the status until you log on again. If you are a participant and you cannot get back online and an Event is in progress, then you would best to call the Host directly and to offer them your best bid. - [Can I access my Data after an Event?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/can-i-access-my-data-after-an-event/): You can access your data after an Event through the Event History icon on your dashboard - [How do I get Upgrades?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/how-do-i-get-upgrades/): Since this is an online application, updates will be applied automatically so you are always running the latest version. - [What methods of communication can be used?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-methods-of-communication-can-be-used/): The invitation from the Host to the participants for the Event can be sent out from the market dojo system. Alternatively the Host can send the invite out to the participants using their own e-mail system or via a phone call by referencing the invitation code. - [Are the bids legally binding?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/are-the-bids-legally-binding/): All bids placed are legally binding. The duration that these prices will be held for should be specified in the 'Request for Participation' document. Please see our guides on this. - [What can you negotiate online?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-can-you-negotiate-online/): In very broad terms, you can negotiate online anything that you can negotiate face-to-face, with the caveat being that in a face-to-face discussion there only need be one participant to strike a deal with. In an Online Negotiation, you require at least two, preferably more, participants to be actively competing with one another on even terms in order to promote a movement in price by either party. Here are some of the types of items we have seen negotiated online from our experience, and this is by no means an exhausted list: - [Where does the name market dojo come from?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/where-does-the-name-market-dojo-come-from/): We have tried to find a name which suits the activity. During the process of setting up an Event, you will analyse and go out to ' market'. The Online Negotiation Event happens in a private marketplace and we help you find the market price. The market is central to the activity, hence the first part of our name. - [What is a private marketplace?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-is-a-private-marketplace/): The Online Negotiation Event with market dojo is only open to the participants whom the Host would like to include. The Event is completely hidden from anyone who has not been invited. Therefore it is the opposite to an open market, such as eBay, which lacks this level of professionalism. - [What is a Qualification Bid?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-is-a-qualification-bid/): The Qualification Bid is the price level at which a participant is able to have their bid accepted for any Lot in the Online Negotiation Event. Think of it as a reserve price if you like. However, a key difference between a reserve price and the qualification price is that with a reserve price your bid is accepted but you get the feedback that your price level is insufficient for you to be successful, whereas with the qualification bid your bid is not accepted until you meet or surpass the qualification price level. In both cases, it is rare for the participant to know or be informed of the actual value of the reserve or qualification price levels. - [What is a Lot?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-is-a-lot/): A Lot refers to a collection of goods or services which the Host would like the participants to bid upon. An Event can be made up of one or more lots. - [What is a Participant?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-is-a-participant/): A participant is a company or individual who wishes to bid on an Online Negotiation Event. Participants do not have to pay to take part in an Online Negotiation Event as we believe this will affect the Host's ability to find the true market price. - [What is a Host?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-is-a-host/): A Host is the person representing the company running and managing the Online Negotiation Event and is looking to buy or sell particular goods or services. The Host will have paid to use the software and will be the person responsible for creating the Event, inviting participants and creating and uploading specifications. The participants should approach the Host with any questions relating to the Event. - [What other terminology is used instead of online negotiation event?](https://marketdojo.com/faq/what-other-terminology-is-used-instead-of-online-negotiation-event/): We have heard Online Negotiation Events called many things before in our time. Here are a handful of alternative terms that you may be familiar with, many of which have the same meaning and ideology to what we offer here at market dojo : Online Auctions, Reverse Auctions, Forward Auctions, Dutch Auctions, English Auctions, Japanese Auctions, e-Auctions, e-RFQ, e-RFX, Online Bidding Events, Procurement Auctions, Sourcing Events, Strategic Sourcing Events, e-Sourcing, eRA, e-Procurement, and so on. We’ve stuck to Online Negotiation Events as we hope that aptly describes what is going on! ## Testimonials - [William Bridgman](https://marketdojo.com/testimonial/john-doe-2/) - [Tara Hunt](https://marketdojo.com/testimonial/tara-hunt/) - [Jasper Raby](https://marketdojo.com/testimonial/john-doe/) ## Tutorial - [Dashboard and Profile](https://marketdojo.com/tutorial/dashboard-and-profile/): Your Dashboard allows you to decide which Events you wish to take part in and which you may wish to decline. After which, if you have accepted the 'current bid' for a Lot, you will proceed to the next round where you will be asked the same question. The auction continues until you can no longer bid for any lot. - [Taking part in a Ranked eAuction](https://marketdojo.com/tutorial/taking-part-in-a-ranked-eauction/): If you have taken part in an RFQ which has progressed to an e-Auction or your Qualification Bids have been successful then you shall most likely be invited to take part in the final activity; the Online Negotiation Event or e-Auction. During the e-Auction, you shall be given feedback as to the competitiveness of your bid in real time; something you don't get during a traditional negotiation. We appreciate this can sometimes be a stressful situation, so to give yourselves the maximum preparation, please take a look through this tutorial in order to feel comfortable with what you are doing on the day. - [Using the Message Board](https://marketdojo.com/tutorial/using-the-message-board/): During the Event, you shall most likely wish to ask the Host questions about it. The Message Board is a fantastic way to go about this as everything is in one place for you, including all the previous questions you asked and the corresponding answers. This ensures that you receive all the same information as everyone else, as the Host can communicate to everyone in such an efficient manner. This tutorial explains how to use the Message Board service. - [Using the Document tab](https://marketdojo.com/tutorial/using-the-document-tab/): After you have been let into the event you will be able to see the Document tab. Watch this video to learn how to place a bid. - [Navigating a normal questionnaire](https://marketdojo.com/tutorial/navigating-a-normal-questionnaire/): Upon a successful completion of a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire, you may progress to the next step, which could be a normal questionnaire in the form of a survey of a Request for Information. - [Navigating a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire](https://marketdojo.com/tutorial/navigating-a-pre-qualification-questionnaire/): Upon a successful invitation and acceptance to an Event, you will be able to work your way through the various areas within it. The first hurdle could be a pre-Qualification Questionnaire. This is a gateway that you need to pass to see the rest of the event, just to ensure that you do have a realistic chance of winning the event. - [Managing an event with advanced lots](https://marketdojo.com/tutorial/managing-an-event-with-advanced-lots/): After several years of development, the Lot Matrix was released letting you create an event with advanced lots. What this looks like and how you manage it is shown in this video. - [Japanese eAuction](https://marketdojo.com/tutorial/japanese-eauction/): Discover how to manage a Japanese Auction as host. A Japanese Auction is where the bid level decreases over time in intervals and suppliers choose whether to bid or decline at that level. - [Managing an eAuction](https://marketdojo.com/tutorial/managing-an-eauction/): The final activity to any e-Sourcing event might well be the mystical e-Auction. We hope to de-mystify this process and show you that it really is quite simple, once you have done all the hard work of defining your requirements, chasing in the participant responses and checking everything looks valid. Once done, check out this video to show you how the e-Auction works. - [Progressing an RFQ to an Auction](https://marketdojo.com/tutorial/progressing-an-rfq-to-an-auction/): After an RFQ has completed, you have the ability to progress to an auction. It allows participants to price up the individual line items offline and then submit a total Lot price online, so that during the negotiation event they only need focus on one figure. Once the negotiation event is complete, the participants can upload their completed line item spreadsheet so that you have a record of their line item pricing. In a similar vein, you can use such a method to also capture participants' cost breakdowns, such as delivery cost, raw material cost, tooling cost etc. - [The Full Process Flow](https://marketdojo.com/guide/full-process-flow/): Download our flowchart displaying the full process of Market Dojo, for both the participant and the host. Use this template to upload your Lots to save you a lot of time. - [Bidding in Multiple Currencies](https://marketdojo.com/guide/bidding-multiple-currencies/): This template can be used to explain to participants how to bid in currencies other than the one you have specified. It refers the participants to an independent and reliable source of currency exchange rate histories which all parties can refer to on a specific date. This ensures that complete transparency is upheld as well as ensuring all bid comparisons are done on a like-for-like basis, as all participants shall be using the same exchange rate. - [Participant Bidding Guide](https://marketdojo.com/guide/participant-bidding-guide/): You might like to give your Participants a short guide on bidding during the qualification process and the auction. This also covers contingency plans and the auction close. You can use this as training material to take your participants through the process before any event. - [Request for Participation Completed Example](https://marketdojo.com/guide/request-participation-completed-example/): In case you would like to see what a completed example of the above document should look like, please review this example on an annual packaging supplies contract. You will hopefully see that the document covers all the required levels of information so that any new or existing participant to your business will be able to understand what the requirement is for and will be able to offer a competitive price as the margin for error is greatly reduced; a benefit to everyone. - [Request for Participation Template](https://marketdojo.com/guide/request-participation-template/): This is the main document in the documentation pack that you make available to the participants. If the category you are placing on the Event is not complicated, then you will not need as thorough a document as this. However, if your category is a very complex contractual service agreement for example, such as temporary labour or corporate mobile phones contracts, then you should benefit from the clear and thorough layout of this template. It has been written to make it much easier for you to involve participants in the Event and highlights in red text the areas that you should re-write in your own wording, thereby already giving you a head start. - [Request for Participation Checklist](https://marketdojo.com/guide/request-participation-checklist/): This document can be used as a crib sheet of all the key points that you may wish to include when you create your documentation pack. For example, informing your participants who you are, what you are looking for, what exactly you are negotiating on, what the commercial terms are or the service levels you are looking for etc. All these key points are flagged in this checklist so that when all these are ticked off, you know you have a robust package of information for your participants to accurately bid on. - [Request Participation Brief](https://marketdojo.com/guide/request-participation-brief/): Occasionally a host may wish to advertise or promote the event to the market outside of the market dojo software. To make this easy for you, we have provided a template "brief" which can be used to outline the key details of the event and how prospective participants can actively engage further, including a paragraph on how they can register for your event through market dojo. Once this is sent out to the market, you should start to notice participants flocking to your event. - [Jargon](https://marketdojo.com/guide/jargon/): This guide provides the explanation of the various terminologies that you may come across during your time with Market Dojo or any other online negotiation software, for example "Host's Choice" or "market price". However, we believe in freedom of information and we feel that it will be a more successful Event for everyone if these practices are adopted. Whilst a host may be doing their best to include all the relevant information, it is common for one or two points to slip through the net. This guide suggests some questions you can ask that may reveal additional information that increases the scale of the opportunity for you, for example does the host belong to a parent company? - [Participants Process Guide](https://marketdojo.com/guide/participants-process-guide/): In essence this is the User Guide for the market dojo software from the participants perspective, except it is more related to the process rather than the software. We are so confident that the software itself with the efficient structure, clear process flow and thorough information help buttons will be so easy to use that you won't need a page-by-page screenshot guide. Therefore we haven't provided one. Instead, this guide outlines the process flow and key hints and tips to ensure the event is a great success for you. - [Logistics Delivery Profile Template](https://marketdojo.com/guide/logistics-delivery-profile-template/): As part of our continued effort to provide useful category-specific templates, please use this template as an example approach to capturing and outlining specific road transport deliveries. This template works three-fold: firstly you can use it to send around your own organisation to ensure all sites provide like-for-like and comprehensive delivery information, secondly it allows your supply market to provide accurate and sustainable quotations and thirdly it allows you to rapidly implement any new logistics company since the information is so clear. - [Non-Disclosure Agreement](https://marketdojo.com/guide/non-disclosure-agreement/): For any organisation or individual that requires a confidentiality agreement between themselves and whoever might be viewing the information, we have provided an example NDA which should be suitable. We would advise that you have this document checked with your legal department to ensure it suits your needs. - [Strategic Price Negotiation](https://marketdojo.com/guide/strategic-price-negotiation/): It is well known that an Online Negotiation Event is only one method for establishing the market price for goods or services. It is certainly not applicable in all instances, particularly not when you are faced with a very low number of capable suppliers. One such alternative is to negotiate directly with the incumbent supplier; however this requires you to have all the facts at your disposal, as you want to be fair to all parties. Even once you do have the facts, do you know exactly what they are telling you? This guide is intended to provide you with an outline of the key considerations and what to look for in order to prepare yourself for those pricing discussions. Please note that whilst this guide is mainly focused on manufactured parts or products, many of the concepts and ideas in this guide can relate to services as well. - [Face-to-Face Negotiation Strategy](https://marketdojo.com/guide/face-to-face-negotiation-strategy/): This guide has been written to provide you with some tools to assist you with the preparation and conducting of face-to-face negotiations. The guide highlights simple strategies and tactics to help structure a face-to-face negotiation and to quantitatively evaluate different suppliers so that you maximise your chances of success. - [Category Examples](https://marketdojo.com/guide/category-examples/): For certain categories there is a tried and tested "best practice" approach to maximising the returns. This guide highlights some of the more common categories that are negotiated online and provides useful detail on how to approach them. Key tactics include splitting line items into Stage 1 and Stage 2 or creating Core Lots and Basket Lots and so on. If you are looking to run an Event on a complete category, then this guide should be reviewed before you dive in. - [Category Evaluation Questionnaire](https://marketdojo.com/guide/category-evaluation-questionnaire/): To be used in conjunction with the above document, this is the matrix of questions that any organisation should be interrogating each spend category with in order to prioritise each category based on their respective strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks. We are confident that most organisations and individuals do have these questions in their minds, however it is useful to have these listed to ensure each category is subjected to the same level of scrutiny, so that a fair comparison is made. - [How To Pick Your Category](https://marketdojo.com/guide/how-to-pick-your-category/): This guide is written to help you right from the beginning when all you may have in front of you is 12 months worth of data and the objective to find the market prices on the various spend categories. How do you take it from here? Well, please read the guide to get our explanation behind sorting and categorising the data into market-facing supply pools. Prioritise the categories by asking some pertinent yet straight-forward questions. Finally we address how you can approach a strategy for each category to make sure you maximise the potential benefits to your company. - [How to Enrol Participants](https://marketdojo.com/guide/how-to-enrol-participants/): This guide aims to help Hosts when they are looking to involve incumbent participants, as well as new participants, in an e-sourcing activity and do not want to risk damaging their relationship or being point-blank refused. It outlines the benefits a participant will have by taking part, the objections that a Host might be faced with and how to overcome those, and how to protect the relationship itself. ## Research - [Procurement Summit Presentation “ 15th November 2016](https://marketdojo.com/research/procurement-summit-presentation-15th-november-2016/): From our joint presentation with Odesma Consultancy at Procurement Summit 2016 entitled, "The Secret to How Aggreko Transformed into Procurement Pioneers". - [Procurement Summit Presentation “ 17th November 2015](https://marketdojo.com/research/procurement-summit-presentation-17th-november-2015/): From our presentation at Procurement Summit 2015 entitled, "Strategies to maximise your eAuction returns". - [Odesma Presentation “ 20th June 2017](https://marketdojo.com/research/odesma-presentation-20th-june-2017/): From our presentation at Procurement Summit 2015 entitled, "Strategies to maximise your eAuction returns". - [eWorld Presentation “ 24th Sept 2014](https://marketdojo.com/research/eworld-presentation-24th-sept-2014/): From our customer's seminar, Creative Education, at eWorld September 2014.
