Introducing Market Dojo’s newest team member, Michael Petrov. Michael joins the Development team as our new Ruby on Rails Developer. We asked Michael a few questions to get to know him a little better.
What made you apply to work at Market Dojo?
I came across the job posting and visited the website. Having come from a totally different background, I had to google some of the big terms. Procurement, eSourcing and reverse auctions were completely new terms. After a bit of investigation it became apparent that Market Dojo has found a genuine gap in the market. The idea behind the company and the product is a very relevant one, we empower companies through technology and as such make a genuine difference for the better!
What do you do at Market Dojo and how long have you worked there for?
I am a Ruby on Rails developer, the framework used to create Market Dojo and it’s products. My task is to get the information, make sure it is correct and display it to our customers in a secure, easy and beautiful way! I write magical code which tells the computer what to do.
How have you found your time so far at Market Dojo and what have you found interesting?
I have only been on board for a week. I have found that the company is a very well oiled machine and everyone I have spoken too has been lovely, extremely talented, capable and very helpful. It’s fascinating to see how every element of operations is taken care of meticulously. The constant advancement of the product is very high paced, innovative and vibrant.
What are you hoping to achieve in your first year?
As a junior developer my aim is to learn as much as possible from the people around me and to ensure that every minute of my time will eventually be in aid of bettering the company and delivering a world class product for our customers.
Who in your team is most likely to rule the world?
How very dare you, me of course!
What one thing would you bring to the office if you could?
I really look forward to visiting the office for the first time! I hope they have a snooker table..
What is the most unusual job you have ever had?
Before I transitioned into tech I was a professional classical musician. If you ask my former colleagues, they would tell you that this job is unusual. My current ones would say the polar opposite.
What is your favourite book/movie?
Pulp Fiction, The Big Lebowski and all the Guy Richie movies! My favourite book is The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
What is one thing about yourself that you think others would be surprised to know?
Last year I was in the top 300 hundred rated FIFA players in the world!
What are your hobbies and interests?
I’m fanatic about football. I love reading about it, watching it, playing it and just about everything to do with it. I also love technology and am super nerdy when it comes to specs. I wouldn’t buy a kettle without having compared the voltages of other kettles on the market.
What is your biggest claim to fame?
I shared a stage with Joanna Lumley once. I was way too casual with her as I had no idea who she was! For shame.
If you could be any animal what would you be?
A vampire-warewolf hybrid.
What actor would you cast to play yourself in a movie?
I’m not sure that I warrant a movie about myself but if Anthony Hopkins was to be cast as me it would be rude to say no.
Where have you travelled? Favourite place?
In my musician days I was very lucky to travel the world and perform in some of the leading concert halls. I have toured Europe, South America, North America and China. Home is where my heart is and that is Bulgaria. We have beautiful cities, sea-side and mountains. Come visit!
