It’s been a year of lots of firsts already for Market Dojo and following this theme is the announcement of our first Product Manager, Ben. Amazingly however, he’s not our first Busted mega-fan. Chris takes that crown Ben.
What made you apply to work at Market Dojo?
The chance to work for a small company with big ambitions. Market Dojo is a business on the move, expanding all of the time; not only in their employee numbers, but in their market presence.
I was really impressed by their philosophy and openness both with their customers and internally, everyone is very easy to talk to and willing to lend a hand.
Of course, the product itself had a huge impact, and it is just the kind of simple yet effective system I wanted to work with. The name and logo aren’t half bad either….
What do you do at Market Dojo and how long have you worked there for?
I’m coming in to Market Dojo as a Product Manager, I’ve only been here for a couple of weeks but am starting to get to grips with everything we offer. I will be making sure we are running as efficiently as possible and getting the most value for our users out of every release. Users can look forward to me quizzing them on things they want to see us produce!
How have you found your time so far at Market Dojo and what have you found interesting?
I’ve enjoyed every moment so far! I’ve been getting to know everyone slowly but surely, everyone has been very helpful making sure I am settled in. Being a city boy, coming down the office in the middle of the country my lungs have been fully opened for the first time in my life.
What are you hoping to achieve in your first year?
I want to get to know our customers better, go out and visit as many as I can to get real-time feedback on the products. Bring everyone closer to the development team; from our internal sales and marketing team, to the end users, making sure we are creating the products that people want to see. Getting to know the ins and outs of procurement couldn’t hurt as well.
What one thing would you bring to the office if you could?
Well, it looks like I’ll be working at home mostly so…. Foot spa? Jacuzzi? One of those massage chair thingys? Is someone willing to chip in to this?
What is the most unusual job you have ever had?
I once worked on the line of a plane parts manufacturer in a factory in Germany, with a minimal understanding of engineering and German
What is your favourite book/movie?
Pulp Fiction, I saw it far too young and have watched it with regularity ever since. It has everything you would want in a movie… and some things you wouldn’t
What is the most embarrassing song you have on your phone?
Busted are the sound of a generation and I will hear nothing negative said about them
What is one thing about yourself that you think others would be surprised to know?
I’ve only seen Busted live 5 times.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I love board games, I have far too many of them, they take up nearly a whole room of my house. I’ve tried every sport I’ve ever had the chance to; from boxing to tiddlywinks. I’ve podcasted, I’ve written music, written a book and now Market Dojo have got me thinking about doing a blog.
If you could be any animal what would you be?
If I got to choose, then I’d probably be a narwhal, they’re essentially a water unicorn.
If it were personality based, I’d end up being a dog; loyal and excitable with a short attentio…
What actor would you cast to play yourself in a movie?
Rupert Grint, enough people have shouted “Ron Weasley” at me in the streets of Birmingham for this to be a pretty easy decision
Where have you travelled? Favourite place?
I’ve been all over; most of Europe and a large amount of Asia with the odd trip to Oceania.
I loved Vietnam and the Netherlands for entirely contrasting reasons; but could see myself living in either.
I’m working my way through doing a country for every letter of the alphabet, only 8 left to go, Zimbabwe or Zambia can expect a visit some time soon (And if someone could form a country beginning with ‘X’ that would be great, thanks)
