Being on the front line of procurement challenges we have been hearing more and more about procurement professionals’ need to streamline and improve their sourcing process. So, with Market Dojo reaching its 13th year, it feels like a good time to reflect on the customers and projects that have been part of the journey. 

As employee number two, I have been in a fortunate position to help many organisations streamline and improve their eSourcing processes. In this article, I take a look at three customer requirements and the results delivered by the team at Market Dojo.


Best-of-Breed Wins the Day

Following a brief discussion at a procurement event in the UK, Interserve purchased a £500 single user licence for Market Dojo Sourcing to run an eAuction on ‘Fire and Security Services’.

The reverse auction resulted in success, whilst gaining stakeholder buy-in with the functionality and the ease of use of the Market Dojo Sourcing platform. This inspired the business case for Interserve to explore a company-wide roll-out the following year.

In 18 months the customer saved over £10 million with Sourcing Dojo

Instead of selecting a traditional Procurement ‘full suite’, Interserve opted for the best-of-breed approach, using Market Dojo for eSourcing and Category Planning, and Market Dojo’s partner, Per Angusta, to provide Pipeline and Savings tracking.

This approach allowed Interserve to benefit from the best of each module, neatly integrated to ensure smooth data flow, and two sets of experts in each specific domain.

Interserve saw near immediate returns from the implementation of Market Dojo and Per Angusta, with the start-up process lasting only a few weeks.

Cost Cutting the Right Way

“An eSourcing solution to cut down costs when running complicated tenders” —Metroline, bus services provides London with a fleet of 1,200 buses carrying 250 million passengers each year Metroline is one of our longest standing clients having first started working together in 2011. After evaluating a number of eSourcing solutions, Metroline chose to use Market Dojo Sourcing on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Like many procurement teams, Metroline had previously relied on spreadsheets to manage tenders from suppliers but, unsurprisingly, the process was slow and inefficient.

By using Market Dojo Sourcing, the team had more control and a more user-friendly, central base for running tenders. In addition, Metroline could see there was further potential for Market Dojo to support the business going forward.

Two years after the initial project, Metroline decided to start running the software on an annual licence and in 2017 they upgraded to Market Dojo’s enterprise solution. This consisted of enabling multiple users, and multiple tools such as: SIM Dojo (Supplier Onboarding) and Quick Quotes (Tailspend Management), as well as Contracts Management and Savings Tracking through Market Dojo’s partner Per Angusta.

With the introduction of tools such as SIM Dojo, our supplier onboarding software, Metroline was able to streamline their supplier compliance processes by easily extracting the necessary data for auditing by their Singaporean parent company.

The greatest win that Metroline gained from using Market Dojo Sourcing is the ease of which they are now able to carry out everyday tasks and the simplicity of the tools when running various processes, such as RFIs and tenders.

Market Dojo Sourcing - the first on-demand e-sourcing solution

The Power of On-Demand

“An eSourcing solution capable of running several large tenders to enable the company to chase savings through better supplier negotiation”—Nice House of Plastics, manufacturer of household and industrial plastic items supporting industries ranging from agricultural, dental, packaging, tableware and furniture

With Sourcing Dojo the customer saved over 53% across three tenders

Having previously used a sourcing tool that failed to deliver results, Nice House of Plastics searched for an alternative solution and found Market Dojo Sourcing. The fact that Market Dojo Sourcing operates an on-demand business model was of massive benefit to the customer who wanted to run a limited number of eAuctions. Also, many of Nice’s suppliers are based in Asia, from China and India to Taiwan, so all supplier engagement needed to be done online.

With very little previous experience, the customer ran three tenders through Market Dojo Sourcing and saved over 53% – far more than they were originally looking to save.

Aside from this tangible benefit, there were unexpected soft benefits. The customer gained a new-found confidence to engage with a whole new range of suppliers due to the extensive functionality of Market Dojo Sourcing’s RFI design… and they used the savings to go to China to visit the new suppliers!

Overall, Market Dojo Sourcing helped streamline what was once a complicated process for the company. The platform was critical in saving time, reducing a process that took months of back and forth emails to a few hours. Read Nice House of Plastics case study

Mighty Oaks from Little Acorns Grow…

Other notable projects include a luxury hotel in Dubai who used Market Dojo Sourcing’s self-serve feature to purchase a single user licence on Sunday (a work day in Dubai) and run several successful tenders, without any issues, by the time the UK-based Market Dojo team began their Monday morning.

Or, the OEM manufacturer who also invested £500 on a single user licence and saved £40 million over a 5 year contract for non-metallic fasteners for the automotive industry.

And not forgetting the homeless charity that saved an incredible 60% on the first ever eAuction or Cancer Research that averaged an annual saving of 28% that they re-directed to valuable research.
